Mid-Year Freak-out Tag

Hey Guys!

Since we are half way through the year I thought that it was about time that I did a book tag and what better tag then the Mid-Year Freak-out Book Tag! (originally by Chami (ReadLikeWildFire) – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03gz6… and Ely (elyjayne / Early Grey Books) – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_Wh0…) This tag is always everywhere in June, so I thought that I would jump on the band wagon and join in. I don’t often do tags but I always enjoy it when I do. Also, I won’t be tagging anyone to do it, just because I hate the idea of someone feeling pressured into doing a tag just because they have been tagged by someone. But anyway, let’s get to the tag.

What is the best book that you’ve read so far in 2018?

I have read a lot of really incredible books so far this year but I think that the one I loved most of all was probably Illuminae by Amie Kauffman and Jay Kristoff. This book was just so amazing, I loved every single second of it. I listened to the audiobook for this one while reading along and it was just so good. it is such a unique format for a story with such incredible storylines. I just could not put it down and I am so excited to read the rest of the trilogy.

What has been your favourite sequel of the first half of the year?

Hands down the best sequel that I have read so far this year was The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater. This is the second book in the Raven Cycle series and it was so good. I actually think that it may have been even better than the first book. I think I listened to it in just two days because it was just so good. I physically could not stop listening to it.

What is your most anticipated release for the second half of the year?

The book that I am most excited for has got to be Vengeful by V E Schwab. This is the sequel to Vicious and I cannot wait for it to come out!!! I need it now!

What is your biggest disappointment so far?

My biggest disappointment so far this year has got to be Optimists Die First by Susin Nielson. This book could have been an incredible book that explored grief and loss, guilt, drug abuse, physical abuse and more. but, it ended up being a, not very good, romance with no substance to it. very disappointed.

What is your biggest surprise so far?

The biggest surprise of the year so far has got to be Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. I had no idea what to expect going into this book, I knew very little about it other than the fact that a few of my favourite booktubers rave about it. and I ended up really fucking loving it. this book is just so damn good. it was unlike anything that I have ever read before and I am so excited to continue with this trilogy. This book was just so damn good.

What is your favourite fictional crush from this year?

I haven’t really developed any new fictional crushes so far this year so I am cheating a little bit and using an old crush that was made even strong this year and that is Jem Carstairs form the Shadowhunter universe. I have loved this boy since I read Clockwork Angel, I fell more for him when reading the Mortal Instruments and when I read Lady Midnight a couple of months ago I remembered how much I loved him.

What is your new favourite character?

My new favourite character has got to be the spectacularly bad ass Mia Corvere from Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. Mia is just such an incredible character. She is brave and strong but also caring and ruthless and just all round amazing. I love her and cannot wait to see more of her.

A book that made you cry?

There has only been one book that I have read this year that really made me cry and that was History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera. I sobbed uncontrollably while reading this book. I mean I had cried twice by the fifth chapter! It was just so emotional and heart-breaking and I just cried so much while reading it.

A book that made you happy?

A book that made me happy was Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda. I read it at the start of the year and completely fell in love with the story. I smiled the whole way through it and it just made me feel all warm and squishy inside. It was just so sweet and funny and it just made me so happy.

Your favourite book to movie/tv show that you’ve seen so far?

Okay, so I am cheating a bit on this one as well. I haven’t watched any book to film or tv adaptations so far this year, so I am using an old one that I have started re-watching and that is The Vampire Diaries. The tv show is just so good and the book was so crap. This is one of those rare cases when the adaptation is better than the book.

What is the most beautiful book that you have bought?

Without a doubt the most beautiful book that I have brought has got to be State Of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury. Not only is the cover absolutely stunning, the actual story is beautiful as well. If you haven’t gotten your hands on this book yet, you need to.

What are 6 books that you want to read by the end of the year?

There are so many incredible books that I am hoping to get to this year but 6 that I am determined to read in 2018 are This Savage Song by V E Schwab, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, Turtles All The Way Down by John Green, The Astonishing Colour Of After by Emily X R Pain, The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert and The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan. All of these just sound so good.

And there we have it. that was my Mid-Year Freak-out Book Tag. I will leave a template of the answers down below in case you wanted to give this a go. As I said at the start, I’m not going to tag anyone specific but if you want to give this tag a go, go for it. I would love to see it. I hope that you have enjoyed todays post and I will see you all again very soon.
