Last year I started making a post every three months talking about the books that are being released in the next three months that I am really excited for. So today I am doing my first one of 2018. I love posts like this as it really helps to bring new releases to my attention. So, without further ado, let’s do this!
Full disclaimer, several of these books have been out in hardback for several months, but as I don’t particularly like hardbacks (they hurt my hand when I read them) I opt to wait for the paperback to be released, and that is what most of these releases are.
The Valiant by Lesley Livingston – 1st January 2018
Fallon is the daughter of a proud Celtic king and the younger sister of the legendary fighter Sorcha. When Fallon was just a child, Sorcha was killed by the armies of Julius Caesar.
On the eve of her seventeenth birthday, Fallon is excited to follow in her sister’s footsteps and earn her place in her father’s war band. She never gets the chance.
Fallon is captured and sold to an elite training school for female gladiators–owned by none other than Julius Caesar himself. In a cruel twist of fate, the man who destroyed Fallon’s family might be her only hope of survival.
Now, Fallon must overcome vicious rivalries, deadly fights in and out of the arena, and perhaps the most dangerous threat of all: her irresistible feelings for Cai, a young Roman soldier and her sworn enemy.
A richly imagined fantasy for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Cinda Williams Chima, The Valiant recounts Fallon’s gripping journey from fierce Celtic princess to legendary gladiator and darling of the Roman empire.
This book sounds as if it is going to be such a girl power novel. i need more of these in my life so I am so excited to pick this one up.
The Lonely Hearts Hotel by Heather O’Neill – 11th January 2018
The Lonely Hearts Hotel is a love story with a difference. Set throughout the roaring twenties, it is a wicked fairytale of circus tricks and child prodigies, radical chorus girls, drug-addicted musicians and brooding clowns, set in an underworld whose economy hinges on the price of a kiss.
It is the tale of two dreamers, abandoned in an orphanage where they were fated to meet. Here, in the face of cold, hunger and unpredictable beatings, Rose and Pierrot create a world of their own, shielding the spark of their curiosity from those whose jealousy will eventually tear them apart.
When they meet again, each will have changed, having struggled through the Depression, through what they have done to fill the absence of the other. But their childhood vision remains – a dream to storm the world, a spectacle, an extravaganza that will lift them out of the gutter and onto a glittering stage.
This book just sounds amazing. It sounds as if it is going to be a really beautiful and magical. I have heard only good things about this book and I just need to read it. several people have recommended it to me and I cannot wait to read it.
A List Of Cages by Robin Roe – 16th January 2018
When Adam Blake lands the best elective ever in his senior year, serving as an aide to the school psychologist, he thinks he’s got it made. Sure, it means a lot of sitting around, which isn’t easy for a guy with ADHD, but he can’t complain, since he gets to spend the period texting all his friends. Then the doctor asks him to track down the troubled freshman who keeps dodging her, and Adam discovers that the boy is Julian – the foster brother he hasn’t seen in five years…
Again this is a book that I have been wanting to read for ages. I have heard nothing but incredible things about it. everyone speaks so highly of this book and I cannot wait to read it. I need to see if it is as amazing as everyone is saying that it is.
Love, Hate & Other Filters by Samira Ahmed – 18th January 2018
A romantic and relevant debut about Islamophobia and how it affects the normal life of a teenage girl.
Maya Aziz dreams of being a film maker in New York. Her family have other ideas. They want her to be a dutiful daughter who wears gold jewellery and high heels and trains to be a doctor. But jewellery and heels are so uncomfortable . . .
She’s also caught between the guy she SHOULD like and the guy she DOES like. But she doesn’t want to let Kareem down and things with Phil would never work out anyway. Would they?
Then a suicide bomber who shares her last name strikes in a city hundreds of miles away and everything changes . .
This book is being pegged as When Dimple Met Rishi crossed with THUG. And if that doesn’t draw you in. I don’t know what will. It is talking about really important issues and I feel like this is going to be one of those books that we should all read.
Meet Cute by Various – 1st February 2018
Readers will experience Nina LaCour’s beautifully written piece about two Bay Area girls meeting via a cranky customer service Tweet, Sara Shepard’s glossy tale about a magazine intern and a young rock star, Nicola Yoon’s imaginative take on break-ups and make-ups, Katie Cotugno’s story of two teens hiding out from the police at a house party, and Huntley Fitzpatrick’s charming love story that begins over iced teas at a diner. There’s futuristic flirting from Kass Morgan and Katharine McGee, a riveting transgender heroine from Meredith Russo, a subway missed connection moment from Jocelyn Davies, and a girl determined to get out of her small town from Ibi Zoboi. Jennifer Armentrout writes a sweet story about finding love from a missing library book, Emery Lord has a heartwarming and funny tale of two girls stuck in an airport, Dhonielle Clayton takes a thoughtful, speculate approach to pre-destined love, and Julie Murphy dreams up a fun twist on reality dating show contestants. This incredibly talented group of authors brings us a collection of stories that are at turns romantic and witty, epic and everyday, heartbreaking and real.
This is set to be a truly amazingly diverse collection of love stories. I cannot wait to pick it up. it sounds so amazing and is going to be the best valentines read ever! Again I feel like this anthology is going to be one of those books that we all need read.
Daughter Of The Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller – 1st February 2018
There will be plenty of time for me to beat him soundly once I’ve gotten what I came for.
Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map–the key to a legendary treasure trove–seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship. More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate Riden. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King.
I freaking love pirates. I find them fascinating! And so cool! I also blame pirates of the Caribbean for my obsession with pirates. So, naturally, I really really want to read this book! I have never read a pirate book before and I need this in my life! Give me the pirates!!!!!!!!!
Of Fire And Stars by Audrey Coulthurst – 6th February 2018
Betrothed since childhood to the prince of Mynaria, Princess Dennaleia has always known what her future holds. Her marriage will seal the alliance between Mynaria and her homeland, protecting her people from other hostile kingdoms.
But Denna has a secret. She possesses an Affinity for fire–a dangerous gift for the future queen of a land where magic is forbidden.
Now Denna has to learn the ways of her new kingdom while trying to hide her growing magic. To make matters worse, she must learn to ride Mynaria’s formidable warhorses before her coronation–and her teacher is the person who intimidates her most, the prickly and unconventional Princess Amaranthine, sister of her betrothed.
When a shocking assassination leaves the kingdom reeling, Mare and Denna reluctantly join forces to search for the culprit. As the two work together, they discover there is more to one another than they thought–and soon their friendship is threatening to blossom into something more.
But with dangerous conflict brewing that makes the alliance more important than ever, acting on their feelings could be deadly. Forced to choose between their duty and their hearts, Mare and Denna must find a way to save their kingdoms–and each other.
This is a book about a lesbian princess. Do I need to say anything else? This sounds amazing! It is going to be such a brilliant read and I actually nearly caved and brought it in hardback because I want to read it so much. I will 100% be buying it as soon as it is released.
And there we have it. those are just a few of the books that I am really excited for. What books are you highly anticipating? Any that you think that I should check out? I hope that you have enjoyed todays post and I will see you all again very soon.
