Book Review: Lockwood & Co, The Hollow Boy by Jonathan Stroud

Hey Guys!

Thank god it is finally Saturday. This week has really dragged. Anyway, it is time for another book review and this week I am continuing a series that I adore. That right, today it is all about the third book in the Lockwood & Co series by Jonathan Stroud. Here is my review for The Hollow Boy.

I am so conflicted with this book. I love this universe and this story but this is definitely my least favourite book in the series so far. I am honestly just so conflicted over my own feelings right now. I don’t know how I feel about this book.

I loved stepping back into this universe. I love the premise of these books. They are always really interesting and exciting. But this one just wasn’t the same. It got off to a really good start, I was instantly intrigued but the more it went on, the more, I don’t know, the storyline depleted in my opinion. I feel like the big storyline was underdeveloped. It was very anticlimactic. And everything was overshadowed by Lucy.

in this book she went from being this brave, sassy, intelligent, teenager to this insecure, catty, brat. And she became so insanely jealous of the new member of the team that she basically just spent the whole book bitching and whining and making some really stupid decisions. I ended up feeling a lot of anger towards her for repeatedly being so dumb. I really think that Stroud made a major mistake with altering her characters so much in this book. If he had stuck to the feel of the first two books this would have been a 5 star read.

apart from Lucy’s attitude clouding everything, I liked the general storyline. It was really interesting and I just wish that it had been slightly more developed. I am really hoping that this trend with Lucy doesn’t continue in the rest of the books, as I feel like it has the ability to ruin this series for me if it does. On the plus side I got through this one in just a few days, I was really invested in the story line and really interested in seeing where it would go.

star 3.53.5 out of 5

Urgh, I don’t know how I feel about this. Some parts of it I really enjoyed, others really annoyed me. And I had also accidently spoiled something massive for myself with this book (accidently read the blurb for the next book when ordering this one (thought Creeping Shadows was book 3, not 4)). Oh well. What did you think about this book? I hope that you have enjoyed todays post and I will see you all again very soon.
